I’m using the waistcoat I made for playing Charles Babbage at the 2016 science fest as a guide.  But I’m usually too impatient to cut out pattern pieces, so most of the time I just measure, mark, and pin, as you see in the second photo.

Counterclockwise (I’m sorry, I don’t know what I was thinking) Clockwise from left: Ciel Phantomhive’s fancy blue coat and shorts, Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing’s tie and suit, Alucard’s tie and pants and vest, Alucard’s shirt.  If I don’t have matching threads somewhere in my box I will be surprised.

I sewed a lot in 2016.  Most of the results looked cool, but structurally a lot of them are showing stress from aerial performance and need extensive repair or even total rethinking.  That’s depressing.  I’m avoiding facing all the re-do work by starting on costumes for our new show for 2017. I was so unhappy with my adaptation of Yuna’s skirt during MomoCon 2016 that I took it completely apart (aided by the fact that I hadn’t painted on the design yet) and put it back together.  A post on the new construction for those interested in the details later, pictures now:

We will be back at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2016 for our third year.  Come see us on Saturday, October 1 at 6pm.  This year’s theme is video games: Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy X, Animal Crossing, League of Legends, Portal and more!

We have a portable aerial rig.  Portable meaning it breaks down into ~1.8 meter beams which we then haul around (or have wonderful helpers to haul them around for us).  To protect the rig paint and the surroundings and for ease of transport we like to have the beams tightly wrapped in packets of 3. …
